Job Description:

Location: Theodore, ALPosition Summary: Bellingrath Gardens and Home in south Mobile County, AL is seeking a hands-on leader to oversee the upkeep and to orchestrate a discernable improvement of expansive turf areas, irrigation system, vegetation management, and composting program.
Primary responsibilities: Oversee the upkeep and appearance of BGH grounds, including turfgrass areas and vegetation management Competently supervise grounds technicians, interns, and volunteers Work with Horticulture Managers to repair and upgrade irrigation system Coordinating with Facilities Manager, take the lead in executing basic maintenance of landscape maintenance machinery and fleet and hand tools Facilitate a culture of safety Hand digging as needed Routine inspection and reporting of grounds-related issues and opportunities for landscape enhancements Work with Director of Horticulture, Display Horticulture Manager, and other Horticulture Managers to implement garden infrastructure, hardscape, and display bed improvement projects Ordering supplies as needed Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Successful candidate must have a strong work ethic, and be able to demonstrate this on their cover letter Supervisory experience is preferred Proven ability to work both independently and effectively as part of a team Strong organizational and safety skills Ability to regularly lift 50+ pounds unassisted Proficient and innovative with landscape equipment and tools Horticulture or related degree, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience Willing and able to work outdoors in typical Mobile, AL climate Must possess a valid driver's license Basic knowledge of landscape plant identification and culture Bellingrath Gardens & Home is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of an applicant's or employee's race, color, religion, sex, national origin, citizenship, age, disability, veteran or military status, genetic information, pregnancy, or any other legally protected basis under applicable federal, state, or local law.
