JOB DESCRIPTIONPOSITION TITLE: Staff NurseDEPARTMENT: Medical/NursingREPORTS TO: Nursing DirectorSUPERVISES: N/AENTRY LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS:Graduate of approved School of Nursing, current State license (RN-preferred) ( LPN acceptable), two years experience in chemical dependency treatment. Experience with adults and adolescents preferred.1. Must be able to continuously sit from to 4 hours per 8 hour shift.2. Must be able to see 20/40 corrected in each eye and hear (hearing aid acceptable).3. Must be capable of administering First Aid and CPR.4. Walk within the facility approximately 1 mile per 8 hour shift.5. Must be emotionally and physically capable of functioning under stressful situations.6. If recovering, must have two (2) years continuous abstinence.GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide all duties of nursing services. Follow Nursing policy and procedures regarding detoxification and other Nursing Services. Carry out physicians orders and protocols as directed. Participate in Performance Improvement and Infection Control activities as indicated.Know and abide by the general provisions of 42 CFR Part 2, Confidentiality of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Patient Records, and 45 CFR Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. This position has unrestricted access to patient identifying and patient health information.KEY FUNCTIONS:1. Complete and document an accurate and comprehensive Nursing Assessment within twenty-four (24) hours of patients admission.2. Assess acuity of withdrawal and intervene according to Physicians policy, procedures, and protocol.3. Establish and maintain rapport with patients and their family members.4. Monitor vital signs (B/P, Pulse, Respirations) and administer medications when ordered by physician.5. Perform venipuncture on patients without harm.6. Administer P.O. medications, IM injections and IV medications, including IV fluids.7. Transcribe physician orders, order medication and be accountable for controlled medications.8. Perform routine monitoring and testing, e.g., blood glucose monitoring, audiometric screening, EKG.9. Provide health/medical education to patients and family members as appropriate.10. Participate in timely, accurate patient record documentation pertaining to nursing assessments, treatment planning, treatment rendered, patients response to and progress in treatment, physicians orders, to include repeat orders, and other standard documentation activities.11. Participate in Clinical Team Staffing and staff meetings as appropriate.12. Conduct regular performance improvement monitoring and evaluation activities and serve on Task Groups as needed.13. Practice the Board of Nursing Standards of Practice.14. Maintain an environment conducive to well-being, safety, and provide health teaching and counseling to patients and staff.15. Must maintain a professional demeanor and appearance, must not appear impaired or disoriented, but rather must present coherent and articulate speech, kept appearance, alert, oriented, and responsive to patients' needs and concerns.16. Regular attendance.17. Must be able to work in a cooperative manner with co-workers, managers, clients and prospective clients.18.
