Role OverviewOur kindergarten teachers provide structured,
engaging, and developmentally appropriate instruction grounded in
the Core Knowledge and classical curriculum model. This includes
building early literacy and numeracy skills, supporting
social-emotional development, and cultivating curiosity and
independence. Teachers are held accountable by the Principal and
Instructional Coach for instructional quality, student growth, and
collaboration.
ResponsibilitiesEmbody --lan Academy's mission, vision, and LEADER
values in every interaction with students, families, and
colleaguesCreate a warm, orderly, and joyful classroom environment
that supports young learners' developmentDeliver rigorous,
standards-aligned, and developmentally appropriate lessons in early
literacy, math, and foundational content knowledgeUse
research-based practices to build phonemic awareness, phonics,
fluency, vocabulary, and comprehensionImplement a structured
approach to handwriting, oral language development, and early
writingScaffold instruction to meet the wide range of developmental
needs and learning styles in a kindergarten classroomUse songs,
chants, movement, and interactive activities to build student
engagement and memoryUphold high expectations for student behavior,
following school-wide systems and using positive reinforcement
consistentlyConduct ongoing assessments (both formative and
summative) and use data to drive lesson planning and
differentiationMaintain strong, consistent communication with
families about academic progress, behavior, and classroom
eventsCollaborate and support the development of the co-teacherPlan
and collaborate with interventionists, and instructional leaders to
reflect, and continuously improve practiceParticipate fully in
professional development, coaching, and staff-wide learning
experiencesAttend all school events including family nights,
recruitment fairs, and community engagement activities
Suggested QualificationsPassion for early childhood education and a
belief that kindergarten sets the tone for lifelong
learningExperience teaching kindergarten or early elementary
studentsDeep understanding of child development, the Science of
Reading, and early math conceptsStrong classroom management and the
ability to build a safe, predictable environment for young
learnersWillingness to work collaboratively and receive
feedbackStrong communication and organization skillsCommitment to
continuous growth, reflection, and professionalismLouisiana State
Teaching Certification (PK-3 or K-5) preferred but not required
